On 21th of May 2018, our embassy held a reception to commemorate the Hungarian Armed Forces day and at the same time used the opportunity to say farewell to the personnel of the Hungarian Defence Attaché office whose mission is ending.

On the 21th of May 1849 – on the climax of the spring military campaign of the 1848-49 revolution – after a three-week long siege Hungarian troops have reclaimed the castle of Buda. To commemorate this event we celebrate the Hungarian Armed Forces on the 21 of May since 1992.

One of the foundations of the Hungarian-Swedish relations is security policy and military cooperation. Despite the fact that Sweden is not a member of NATO, as a partner nation it still shares the goals of the military alliance and along the common challenges of security policy it is working closely together with the NATO members. Within the framework of the EU the formation of a common foreign, security and defence policy is based on the unanimous agreement of the member states that demand a close cooperation on both multilateral and bilateral level. One of the major pillars of the Hungarian-Swedish military cooperation is that Hungary is part of the Swedish Gripen family. In the framework of this, our Armed forces and especially the Air Forces have an intensive and continuous cooperation.

The embassy in Stockholm has commemorated the Hungarian Armed Forces day with a reception hosted by the Ambassador and the Military Attaché at the embassy. The invited guests included the representatives of the Swedish Armed Forces, military attachés accredited to Sweden and our senior partners from the field of security and defence policy. We used the opportunity provided by the Armed Forces day to say farewell to our excellent colleagues, Brigadier General Nándor Kilián, the Defence Attaché and Major Péter Molnár Assistant Defence Attaché. Their several years of work in Sweden have significantly strengthened the military cooperation between Hungary and Sweden and with this achievement, they also contributed to the close cooperation between our countries.
