Swedish Minister of Defence Peter Hultqvist visited Hungary (28 August 2021)















Swedish Minister of Defence Peter Hultqvist visited the Hungarian Air Show in Kecskemét on 28 August where he also met with  Hungarian Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő. During their bilateral meeting, the two ministers followed up their discussions from the meeting on 19 February 2020 in Stockholm on the excellent bilateral cooperation in the field of defence between Sweden and Hungary.

On the margins of the Swedish ministerial visit to Kecskemét and in the presence of the two ministers, Mr Gáspár Maróth, the Hungarian Government Commissioner for Defence Procurement and Sweden’s SAAB AB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The purpose of the MoU is to provide a framework for negotiations between the parties on R&D and the development of business cooperation regarding the aerospace industry in Hungary.

The meeting of the two minister was held on the premises of the MH 59. Dezső Szentgyörgyi Air Base, where the Hungarian Gripen fleet is stationed. The previous models of SAAB’s fighter jets also participated at the Hungarian Air Show in Kecskemét, which was a real curiosity.

During his visit, Minister Hultqvist was briefed on the rescue operations from Afghanistan by the Swedish commander of the Heavy Airlift Wing in Pápa, Colonel Peder Söderström.
