My term as Ambassador of Hungary to Sweden – after eight years – slowly comes to an end, and I return to Budapest. On this occasion, please allow me to say goodbye with this post to you. From every perspective, these have been truly exceptional eight years. The world and Europe have changed tremendously. These changes have only confirmed how important bilateral cooperation, close collaboration, and stronger relations between countries are.
It has been an honour and a privilege to represent my country in Sweden. My only goal was to bring our countries and peoples closer together and to initiate more contacts and talks in every possible field, whether politics, trade, investment, culture, science, the Hungarian diaspora, or beyond. I am convinced that my Embassy has achieved a lot, and that we navigated well through challenging times.
I am very proud of my team at the Embassy and grateful for their support during these long years. They are excellent professionals, and it was a true joy working with them.
The list of important moments of Hungarian-Swedish relations during my Ambassadorial time is long, but you can easily follow part of it here on pur website or on Facebook, Instagram.
The past eight years were packed with political visits (Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Defence Minister, European Affairs Minister, etc.), trade and investment-related talks and meetings, great Hungarian cultural events, scientific contacts, and many occasions together with the Hungarian diaspora living in Sweden. Among the unique experiences, I had the privilege of leading my team through the challenges of the COVID pandemic, framing the 100 years of diplomatic relations, successfully managing both the Swedish and later the Hungarian EU Presidency in Stockholm, following Sweden's NATO process and welcoming two Hungarian Nobel laureates, Prof. Katalin Karikó and Prof. Ferenc Krausz, in Stockholm. I also had the honour of serving in the unique and distinguished role of Doyenne of the Diplomatic Corps in Sweden.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all colleagues and partners in Sweden, as well as the ambassadors and diplomat colleagues in Stockholm, for the cooperation, support, and friendship over the past years. Sweden and all my partners in Sweden will always have a special place in my heart.
I wish my successor the very best and kindly ask you to offer him your support for a quick start.
With my best regards,
Adrien Müller, Ambassador of Hungary to Sweden
